Everything that is horribly wrong with the movie, 'the curse of the weeping woman'
First of
all, I’m not a movie addict. But I love checking out new films, especially if
they are horror movies and analyse them to pieces. You see I’m very passionate
about anything supernatural!
Okay so now
the facts which do NOT at all go with the legend or the supernatural world.
Fact 1-She
is an EVIL SPIRIT (negative entity) Not a demon.
While only
demons can according to Christian beliefs have physical manifestations or any
other physical forces, such as pushing or grabbing or scratching or something
of that affect, clearly here she though not demon displays almost all of these.
Even demons
cannot accost humans if they do not invite that demon in their life.
Spirits are
in general lost souls who are for the most part aren’t even aware that they are
dead.
They
certain possess no such power to harm someone. In fact they don’t possess much
ectoplasm for manifestation most of the times.
It is a
very, very rare case if the spirit actually materializes or becomes an
apparition.
There are
only a few such instances till date.
Being thus
Not a demon she could not have possessed such power as to drag two children or
even adults or do any such acts which is shown in the movie.
She can at
most part scare them to death without touching them as she has no physical body
and is thus unable to touch them.
The
director actually turned her into a zombie version with super powers of
teleportation and omnipresence.
Fact 2-She again a spirit so how on earth could she wear a locket in her neck?
A physical
one which the mother is able to wrench out when they try to fight under water.
How is she
even able to touch a spirit or vice versa?
Besides it
is shown that when she is shown that locket she regains her humanity and no
longer acts as a evil spirit, it is not possible as while past items does seem
to have an effect on spirits, those are pretty mild and except a slight spike in
EMF, normally there is nothing else. In spirit form scientists believes that
our memories slowly start to fade and the old the spirit the less memories of
his/her past they ill be able to recall.
Moreover
only a name has the most effect over a supernatural being, however spirit only
response or communicate if they are called by their name, such though is not
the case for a demon, their name is a secret which they guard as it is possible
to harm a demon if their names can be found or banish them to hell forever.
In many
folklore and legends most supernatural beings are afraid of giving out their
real names as it is believed that giving someone their names means giving away
a part of their soul and that other person who has that name will forever hold
power over them.
A name is
also intricately connected with a person’s identity and thus is precious in the
cosmic balance. It is the first thing a person receives after being born and is
also the primary identity of a soul throughout their life.
However the
director chose to ignore these and concentrate on a locket which is physical and
is given to her by her cheating, liar husband.
Instead of
becoming calm she should have flown into a much higher rage if we choose it see
it from the director’s perspective too.
Just
doesn’t make sense.
Fact 3-And
the most important one.
It is shown
that La Llorona chose the children when another mother told her to do so.
Now anyone
who is even one percent aware of the myth knows that it doesn’t work that way.
La Llorona
after drowning her children was overcome with guilt and grief at her sin and
thus committed suicide cause she wanted to join her children. However
her amount of sin prevented her from leaving this earth and she became an evil
spirit.
In Mexico
people used to keep unruly children in line by saying that if they are not good
and obedient La Llorona will come and take them away. Whereas it was just a rumor
to make them behave.
La Llorona didn’t
become evil; she became a guilt ridden mother. Unable to find her children.
As the
actual legend goes, her spirit haunts the river side, crying and weeping for
her lost children and any children at night goes to the river side by mistake
then she mistakes them as her children and tries to keep them with her by
drowning them, she thinks that their spirit then will stay with her forever.
That is the
real legend.
No where it
is written that she goes after children because someone said her to make a
mother’s children her victim.
In most
cases they will have to go to the river side and she is bound to the river
side, she cannot follow someone to their home. A spirit is always bound to the
place of their death and can never move freely. Only demon can do so, even then
he needs permission f the human for following them around.
However a
permission does not mean explicitly saying “yeah Mr demon, you can follow me
around”, no, If you use a Ouija board or practice any dark ritual or try to
contact the demon, these small things can be taken as a invitation or permission
by the demon.
Anyway, I’m
going off topic, Back to her.
As I was
saying it does not work that way. The Haunting of La Llorona I mean, if you are
able to get away from the river side she will stop trying to harm you.
At least
that is the theory.
Fact 4
Tears of a ghost can be stored in a jar!?(Give me the formula please!)
How can the
pseudo priest store her tears? I mean why was there tears even for that matter?
Complete
gibberish that is what this is!
Fact 5- trying
to drown people in any water bodies she can find.
How many
times do I need to say? You NEED a River, a river! Or any other natural water
bodies, like a lake (big one).
She didn’t
drown her children in a pool or a bathtub. She is trying to recreate the same
memory so why would she try to do such things?
“People who claim to
have seen her say she appears at night or in the late evenings from rivers or
lakes throughout Latin America Some believe that those who hear the wails of La
Llorona are marked for death.”
Fact 6- luring
the girl outside with her teddy bear.
While
spirits possess a part of their intelligence and memories unlike a poltergeist
or normal haunting, they however is not cunning. At all. They are confused for
most part. And they barely is able to perceive the outside world, much rather
be cunning enough to set a trap for someone.
This is
totally a demonic quality. As demons were never human and possesses way more
intellect than any human on the earth. Completely and utterly this is something
a demon would have done but not a spirit, negative or positive.
Fact 7- Spirits are not omnipotent
Spirits
were human once thus all human qualities are applicable in regards to them. S
such it is impossible for her to know the value that toy hold for the girl. As
she wasn’t around the family in the past.
Omnipotent is a quality which is associated
with God, Angels and Demons and to certain extent some other supernatural
creatures in legends and myths but certainly not with spirits.
Ultimately
‘The curse of the weeping woman’ became a zombie movie even worse than ‘The
Nun’.
Honestly I
was fuming while watching it cause it is one of my favourite legends and the
director just made a monster out of the poor guilt ridden grieving mother
ghostie. Just think about her punishment, she will forever have to roam this
earth, alone, never being reuniting with her children.
I admit
what she did was quite a heavy sin and she should probably bur in fires of hell
for that but still just imagine how magnificent a film would have been made
with it if only the director had enough sense!
