The End of Beginnings (New World Reapers #1) by Amritansh Dayal
That is what greets the remnants of eradicated humanity as their first stronghold of a new world is snatched from them. Watch as each of the characters in the book embarks on a journey to accomplish his or her own goals while combating swarms of monstrous opponents, both, in body and in mind. With their own weapons and traits, they endeavor to achieve their own feeble goals and grand ambitions.
Of the four surviving friends, the protagonist is the only one without any superhuman power, but he is still the leader of the group, and the master strategist, who is trying to ensure that his friends survive the bitter battles with the Mutants and the Shadows. Will he succeed?
The End of Beginnings (New World Reapers #1)
by
A fantasy novel about life and strife after apocalypse. The loner, among people with varying superpowers and people-eating shadows & mutants, the protagonists takes the responsibility of keeping himself and his friends & family alive. He has no superpowers but is still a leader. Coldly rational, strategist and totally focused, he has to ensure that he overcomes everything to reach his goal."
Just as the title suggests this story is about new
beginnings. It starts with an apocalypse of world which does not only wipes out
humanity but also gives the surviving humanity super powers, and wait that
isn’t the only thing that happens, the other humans are now supposedly
transformed into shadows and mutants, both despicable creatures. There isn’t
much of humanity left but they are trying their best to survive in this
post-apocalyptic
Athias Dawn, along with his other two friends and his
brother seems to be among the few who survived. However he is the only one in
the whole humanity who is without any superpowers. But that does not stop him
from defeating neither shadows nor mutants. But again humanity is brutally
razed to the ground when a large number of them comes and attacks the small
makeshift colony the remaining survivors have built up. This time not only the
army of mutants massacred the army of humans but also took all alive fighters
as captives. Now Athias is left to retrieve not only his comrades but also his
friends and brothers and have a score to settle with the mutant who killed him
along with the coward general who left the human army to die in the
battlefield.
An adventure story with twists of psychological
thriller and filled with more actions than conversations. A perfect story for
those in love with a YA Sci-fi with action thrown in the mix.
There are some loopholes and some places needs a bit
more details and clarifications but otherwise it is a good book.
The fact there this book is filled with twists keeps
the reader on their toes. My personal favourite is the twist related mutants.
The characters are quite good and Athias seems like a
hero but he is actually a hero with a twisted psyche. Most of his behaviours
are vague and ambiguous. He is impassive, cold, emotionless and has the ability
and heartlessness to manipulate someone to suit his own needs, however at the
same time he seems caring, compassionate and selfless to the point of self harm.
He is such a complex character that his behaviour
contrasts sharply with his words. Other characters in the story is pretty
simple compared to him. In fact it would have been great if the author included
more complex characters.
The plot is actually very simple but the unseen twists
and character development makes the plot very interesting ,indeed.
Overall I would say that it is worth giving a chance.
Author Bio
Born in June 1999, Amritansh is a smart, intelligent, and rebellious teenager. Most people think outside-the-box, he lives outside-the-box. Rather than being guided by the established norms, he believes in creating his own value systems and living by them. He thinks that formal education is over-rated. He enjoys learning things, that interest him, on his own. As he often said during his school days - he loves learning but hates studying.
He binges on playing synthesizer, taking mid-night walks, playing chess, reading, writing, star gazing, potato chips and cola. He is mostly in a Do-Not-Disturb mode, busy thinking over issues ranging from the mundane to the profound.
Though he was famous in school for his incomplete note-books, he filled up several diaries with his articles, stories, and sketches. He loves debating and has been a keen MUNer, winning several accolades. Normally quite impatient, he is, surprisingly, a good guide and teacher. His sense of humor is evident in his writings and interactions. He believes that sarcasm is the spice of life and adheres by it in his work.
