Kandor The Warrior - Leo

It starts with the journey of an warrior...
It is a fantasy novel, set in another world all together.

"Cerminian lies on a huge island in the Great Sea. It is the southernmost of five kingdoms ruled by the
King Athner. He sits on the throne alone, his queen died some time ago and his daughter Mercedes is his
only heir. To the east of Cerminian lies the Kingdom of Paladin. Malliquae, greatest of all Paladin
knights, rules this kingdom. He was crowned king when his father Blenholm died in battle during the
great crusades. To the west of Cerminian is the Kingdom of Amazon. Here the Queen Sharizee is the
ruler of the female warriors. It is rumoured that no man ever leaves Amazon, for once ventured there he
is held captive and used as a slave amongst other things. She is said to have killed her own father and
brother and vowed to never let the male species ever rule Amazon again. Some say the woman is insane,
others that she just hates mankind and anything representing phallic symbolism.
The sea surrounding these kingdoms is treacherous even in the warm seasons, making the land
unapproachable and the cliffs are so sheer and steep it would be impossible to moor a sea vessel. The
most central of kingdoms isn’t a kingdom at all but a great city called Hunters Ridge. It isn’t ruled but
governed by a council. The chairman of this council is Mayor Polcheesel. He was one of the first
settlers in the area and helped construct the first building, which later became the town hall, above
which he now resides. In the early days when the city was still expanding, Polcheesel was an outspoken
politician and many people looked up to him. He won the hearts of the majority and soon became
Mayor of the city. Polcheesel made certain laws and these laws were to be abided by even to this day.
Settlers of all races were buying plots of land and building their own homes and it wasn’t long before he
owned all the banks and had a monopoly on the whole town. He set up a kind of police force, or ‘city
guard’, as they are known. These guards are feared throughout the city and overrule the fear of being
thrown in Polcheesel’s prison if the law is broken. Many who end up in the prison never leave. It is said
he has become a recluse and the younger folk have never even seen him. The new generation rumour
that he is dead and some even believe he never existed at all.
The last of the kingdoms is the Kingdom of Travellers. This kingdom is ruled by King Wellom the
traveller. Of all the mainland kingdoms, it is the only one near the sea and is only accessible by land.
King Wellom tells stories of great men he had met who built ships and sailed the sea. These men are
said to have explored the oceans and beyond, but there is no proof. Any man who had ever dared
venture in to the Great Sea has never returned. Some say that many have perished and were swallowed
up by the deep blue void. King Wellom will tell you that many men found other kingdoms beyond the
sea and now live in paradise.

This is a journey that starts in the Great Forest. From the Great Forest to the Everlasting Darkness. A
swamp that stretches for miles to the lush Green Hills. The Green Hills lead on to Ye Deep Canyon. A
huge chasm some two thousand feet deep and at least a mile wide. Below, running westwards is the
Rancid River. The other side of the canyon is Hunters Ridge. A scattering of villages stands between
the city of Hunters Ridge and the Baron Plains. On the horizon, the Mountains of the Dead can be seen
towering above the Baron plains. Two men, a human and a dwarf take on the quest of a lifetime. They
will encounter many foes on their journey and rely on each other, for their lives will depend on it."

As expected from a fantasy novel the author had to build a whole new world.  It is a daunting task actually and if not executed perfectly the whole world comes crashing down. But the author here has been able to more or less make a solid backdrop for the story.
It is filled with witches, sorceress, warriors, goblins, orcs, slaves, dragons, demons, hydra , kings, Queens, and other monstrous beasts and creatures from the fantasy realm. It can be called a cross between 'Narnia' and 'Lord of The Rings'.
While I'm normally skeptical about reading books  of these kind as most are not my cup of coffee , this was a enjoyable read.
If you like to get submerged into a world of complicated human relations, battles between good and evil, righteous and honourable warriors , magical creatures, kingdoms with Kings and Queens,
Magicians and sorceress and escape the sordid reality for a few hours then you should definitely read it.
It has everything that a fantasy lover would appreciate.
Overall a good book for passing a few hours.
