Of Dreams and Nightmares - Morgan Vane

This collection of short stories contains three stories which are inter-related.
It revolves around a woman Faye and Jessie (who is something other that human, I've no idea what. The author did not reveal) and finding their happily ever after against time, space and even sometimes social hindrances and moralities.
The first story is named 'Bliss'.It is set against the back drop of a mother's worry for her child who she thinks has been kidnapped. Her thoughts are beautifully presented, the panic of a mother, her worry for her child's safety and her absolute desperation to get her child back. Though it can be a bit confusing as how her soulmate (she thinks) came about into the story and how from a worried mother she became a complete lovelorn woman. However due to it's absolute stunning first person narrative the stream of consciousness lovers would love this work. However Faye can feel totally belonging from a different world, wholly cut off from reality around her. There are numorous loose ends such as -where did her sister go? What about the back story of the guy's family? What is he exactly? How did they got hold of her child? What would he do with her now that he has her?

The next in line is 'Beyond the Shroud like Mist',which tells the story of a teenager who never found her place in this world. Her existence is implicitly wrapped with the fact that she always feels out of place with everything and everyone. Then by a hand of fate she finds out about a long forgotten ,abandoned and ruined city.  Most mysterious is the fact that it seems to call to her. She accepts it's call. Now only the fact that remains to be seen is what will that acceptance cost her.
The concept of 'coexistence of the duality of pain and pleasure side by side' is beautifully explored in this one. The emotional condition of the protagonists as well as the inner psycology is graphically captured and elaborated by author Morgan Vane in this one.Similar to the first one there are some loose ends which coincideswith the loose ends of the first one. Except that the excellent first person narrative makes it a pleasurable read.

The last of these collection is 'No Peeking '. Although this one kindof makes an end of their journey together through time and space it isn't as much captivating as the other two. Infact I found this one a shadow of the previous stories. While it has merit of it's own , there isn't much potential. The narration is splendid but it still lacks something. The female protagonist seems down right insane and the male psychotic. To be honest I found this one quite disturbing. However it did seem kind of fit for the ending.
In this version Faye is shown as a teacher who falls for her 16 years old student who is Jessie. It is a big concern for her but that's not the end, someone is killing  the children under her care and she needs to find out before that killer does anything to Jessie.
A thrilling story of mystery, love, bondings, and soulmates with a sprinkle of paranormal thrown in it. And viola you just got the main theme of 'Of Dreams and Nightmares'
Author biography:
Morgan is a simple creature that enjoys simple comforts. She likes food and Netflix and cuddling on the sofa with her two cats. Out of all the things she’s tried, writing is the only one that can make her spirit sing. Also, her sisters tell her that she often has a contemplative expression on her face, a far-off look in her eyes that hints at her deep and serious musings. She doesn’t have the heart to tell them, that nine times out of ten she is daydreaming about putting pretty people in all sorts of impossible situations and then having them do all sorts of certainly possible things to each other.
