Nefarious - Antonio J. Hopson

The story opens with narratives of a lot of people. Their thoughts, feelings, as they all gather for the sailboat race week. The backdrop of the story is a sailboat race. We get to know tye different characters as they gather for the race. Some are interesting, some are downright insane and some are blackheads .
It progresses and basically describes the race and in the process we get to know the other characters slowly and they don't look so sinister or dark anymore.
It's not only a romance and true love kind of story.  As they sail side by side their journey also imparts much wisdom to the readers. It makes them think deep and search within themselves for the truth of existence and reality.
Though with so many characters the first few pages becomes very confusing as you try to get acquainted with them . But after 100 pages it will become easier.
This story is not exactly an adventure, as it starts long before the race. I'll call it more psychological novel than adventure novel as this novel explorers every nuke and dark corners of the mind of almost all characters.
The inner musings of almost all characters are very intriguing. However the devil's is more so. At least I felt that!
"There was no such thing as "evil", only carelessness. It was the actions of people...that were evil."
The way author shifts the narrative from one person's perspective to another's without breaking the perfect synchronised flow of the narrative is fascinating.
It shows mankind at it's worst as well as best, with bouts of wisdom and insight thrown in the mix.
"People were hypocrites.  They selected animals  to eat that they saw merely as animals, and nothing else. But the world was filled with many sprits—everything alive had a consciousness. Pigs were not any more, or any less conscious as a whale... "
I just loved the way it ended. With a profound realisation about life .
"Dan could see it clearly. He could see that Race Week was a magnificent hallucination, and that  he was a key part of the myth.  Sailing was myth. A game of hide-and-seek.  The most important rule was seemingly the simple: find wind for your sails. Now you see it, now you don’t.  They were no more content to live forever in bliss than they were content to live in hell fire.  No more content to live in a steady wind, than they were content in none. They were playing a game. A game called Race Week. He was the captain of this game. The captain of a great hallucination.  The captain of Race Week. The captain of a Farr 30. And although they were only playing for trophies, bullets and bragging rights, they were absorbed in the game, hook line and sinker. He had never believed that he could never fall for the mind trick, but he had.
...
Dan quietly tied up the dingy, hardly causing a wake on the lovely, black water. He slipped by the crew, still drunk, still singing the Nefarious song and slinked his way to Martina’s side, curled up in a  blanket, asleep on the floor.  He kissed her, and she awoke. “When Ivonne swam for Rhett,” he whispered. “Would you have done the same for me?” “Yes, Danny,” she said in a dreamy voice. “You are my sailor and I am your sea princess.” And he laid his head upon her breast to fall asleep, a drowsy, sloppy, mess. "
At the end of everything only true love remains and a soul deep realisation about life.
Definitely love the ending!
