Angel Dust - Sarah Mussi
Have you ever fallen in love with a person who was so completely bad that his soul can only find a place in hell?
Marcus Montague is bound for hell, even he himself knows that for a fact. Serafina , one of God's brightest angels was tasked with collecting his soul. But one look into his eyes and she fell head over heels in love with him. But he was beyond salvation. Serafina decided that he will repent and she will save his soul. But how far will she be willing to go and how much will she need to sacrifice to save his soul?
This is the story of Serafina, written from her perspective. For the first few pages things can be very confusing as Serafina is unlike any other protagonist I've ever encountered. She is neither good nor evil, neither selfless nor selfish. She is very different. Maybe because these are human qualities and to begin with she is far from being a human. When I began this I was totally expecting a normal human-angel love story. However in that regard I was quite disappointed. There were nothing like that. Though they would develop a relation, to say it romantic would be stretching it a bit. Then I realised that the central plot is not the romance but a contemplation of the confused beings called human beings. It perceived our world from native, innocent eyes. To quote a review "Serafina was something entirely different . A being of light, good and kindness, that was sullied by humans and evil but then cleansed by a forbidden yet pure selfless love."
The narrative style can be a bit hard to understand at first but by the middle of the story the readers would get habituated to it and won't face any problems. As I already said it is not exactly a romance novel, but it is more, so much more than that . Author Sarah Mussi does indeed broadens our understanding of the human world while illuminating parts of human psyche along the way.
